# SFTP Delete

## Overview

Deletes a file on a remote SFTP server when the flow runs. Use for retention and cleanup after files are archived elsewhere.

When the flow reaches this step, JOrchestrator executes **SFTP Delete** against your linked site or an external integration, using the field values you set on **General** and **Design**. Downstream steps can read the output payload fields defined for this node.

## Why use this node

SFTP Delete is a **action step** in the **Connectors › SFTP** group. Action steps run in the middle or end of a flow. They perform work on your CMS, call external services, or transform data for the next step.

Typical reasons teams add **SFTP Delete** to a flow:

- Remove files from a secure SFTP inbox after successful processing
- Enforce retention on SFTP archives as part of a scheduled flow
- Delete PGP-encrypted payloads once decrypted and stored in the CMS

## Example workflows

1. **Trigger or Webhook** → upstream steps → **SFTP Delete** → **Send Email** or CMS update
2. **Scheduled trigger** → **SFTP Delete** → **Debug** (while testing) → production action

## Good to know

Deletes a single file at the given path — uses SSH/SFTP (port 22 by default).
